GRACE MENG RECEIVES ENDORSEMENT FROM FILIPINO AMERICANS IN HOME STATE

QUEENS, NEW YORK – Today Congresswoman Grace Meng (D-NY), Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee, received the endorsement of the Filipino American Democratic Club of New York (FADCNY) for re-election as Vice Chair. Congresswoman Meng is a historic figure in the Asian American community as New York’s first Member of Congress who is Asian American and the only representative from the Northeast who is of Asian American descent. The Filipino American community is proud to stand alongside a candidate for vice chair who will continue and expand the party’s efforts to bring the Asian American community, America’s fastest growing population and swing vote demographic that overwhelmingly voted for Democrats in 2016, fully into the fold.

Congresswoman Meng’s historic election last summer as Vice Chair served to highlight and address the enormous lack of representation of Asian Americans in positions of party leadership. She is an important force for encouraging the party’s outreach to Asian American communities and the growing number of people of color and women who make up our party’s base. Asian Americans are becoming a bigger part of the Democratic coalition not just as voters, but as donors, volunteers, and candidates for elected office.

Congresswoman Meng brings to the position of DNC Vice Chair her experience running ASPIRE PAC, the political arm of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), and her own political organization @theTable, which works to support immigrants or their children, young or first-time political contenders, and women candidates for office. Congresswoman Meng has inspired, guided and counseled many Democrats to run for office and she is passionate about building our bench at every level of elected office. We call on members of the Democratic National Committee to re-elect her so that she can continue this important and needed endeavor, and to send a strong message to the AAPI community that their experiences and contributions will be well represented and respected in our party.

Congresswoman Grace Meng said: “I am honored to receive the endorsement of Filipino American Democrats in my home state and welcome their support in our growing movement to build our bench and to strengthen our party. Groups like FADCNY comprise the grassroots foundation of our party, and help deliver our state parties’ message to all Americans. They make sure that people in our communities understand the Democratic Party works for their interests, and when races are closely contested, organized and coordinated grassroots efforts can make the winning difference. I look forward to continuing my work with the grassroots of our party to connect them with our state party chairs and organizations so we can build winning coalitions in the elections to come.”
